Default Circles

Why is it that at Elmendorf it always seems that the airplanes just fly in circles except for when it's time for me to jump out of one? I mean I see everything from a C-17 to fighter planes landing circle go around etc.... How life must get boring that was the worse part of learning how to fly! Im really just curious as to whether or not this has a purpose other than logging stick time.

they are called VFR patterns and a lot more is going on in those aircraft then what you can see from your C172.

Ray...Wow...you really have no idea what goes on outside the line of sight to the field.

I know there's supposed to be no such thing as a stupid question, but I just can't bring myself to even address this one.

Sometimes you need just a bit of humor in your life....

Single circle, of course. Especially with JHMCS.

I went to the Indy 500 last year and I had an infield seat. The only thing I could see was the pits.

I don't see why everyone likes going to that race. All the drivers did was stop and get new tires and gas every once in a while. Being an Indy car driver must be really boring - especially if that's the hardest thing they do.

I'm in UPT right now and I'd have to say that I have more fun in the pattern flying overheads than I do out in the area flying aerobatics. Getting upside down and pulling G's is cool and all, but nothing compares to yanking and banking in the pattern at 200kts and 1000AGL with 10 of your buddies.

There's a WHOLE LOT more going on in those circular patterns than you think Ray. It's too bad you can't fly overheads in the civlian world.

Ok its not really a dumb question. I've always been fascinated by military aviation and just curious as to what tactical stuff the pilots are doing! I guess I brought that on myself didnt I?
