Wow! That was not the response I was hoping for! I was feeling pretty confident until your post. I have been hearing anything less than 12 months and you were good to go, but that was from people who PC'd 6-12 months ago. I am also an 11M (C-17s, now T-1s). What airframe were you? I wonder if that makes a difference. Sorry to hear your news.

I don't say this to make you feel bad, but in the interest of accuracy I knew guys that got paid ~170k to get out (12 yrs x Maj pay).

Life is truly not fair.

Best of luck to you.

I got an email a couple of weeks ago through my chain of command that originated from the Air Staff through AFPC essentially saying that Congress just approved a USAF end strength increase of 30,000 personnel and that Palace Chase is officially shut down as of 31 March 2008, and that only previously approved applications will be honored.

That was the "Force Shaping" Palace Chase, which was a 1 for 1 deal. The "normal" Palace Chase, which is 3 for 1, is still available for a few lucky ones. Hopefully, I will be one of them!

I'm sure there were some that got paid more, but my year group was not offered that much. At the time VSP was offered I wasn't in a good position to bail, like I am now. I don't regrett not taking VSP, I just wish some common sense was applied to individual cases and not a broad and sweeping yes or no.

I was C-130 and now fly TC-12's at NAS Corpus Christi.

Green...after your previous post, I called down to the Palace Chase office. She said the only people getting denied inside a year are fighter pilots and other people who do not have their wing commander's support (ie..the commander checked the "do not support" box on the form.) Did you have the support? But, I don't know how much this lady knew. I guess I'll find out in a few weeks!

Green Light 08-24-2008 09:11 AM

I had the support from my Sq and Wing commander. You can read what they put on your form. In fact, my SQ CC called AFPC and told them I wasn't going to take another assignment so my functional manager said he would approve it as well.

I'm sure you know that the Palace Chase package goes to the office of the Secretary of the Air Force. I think what might have got me in trouble is all of the problems that office has been having over the last 2-3 months. Maybe when things settle down up there they will start back up.

I talked to MSgt Clenddenen at RND when I submitted my package a few months ago and asked her the same question. She said it used to be an automatic yes, but has recently seen guys with as little as 9 months get denied. She didn't go into detail as to why though.

I wish you the best and please keep us posted. I can reapply in November and plan to.

good luck, I just flew my first IOE trip for a 121 cargo company since getting out under 7 day opt, and I must say, I enjoy this side of the fence much better. Only problem is figuring out what to do with the free time, guess I have to do honeydos now, no deployments/AF 12 hour days as an excuse.

I guess if you want to hurry it up, you can tell AFPC you want a "365 day opportunity" and when they drop the rip, 7 day opt it.
