Thx USMC.
I'll go ahead and post a related question here:
I suppose you are familiar with AFFSA at MMAC...Do you think AFFSA is a good place to start to get into FAA flying jobs, such as your own? I may have an opportunity to move to AFFSA next year.
Thanks,
Smash

AFFSA is on the center and will probably help you meet a few folks, but overall i'd say that if your only reason for taking that assignment is to get a flight check job... You might end up being dissapointed.

I'm currently enlisted Air Force as a Flight Engineer and within the past week an airway inspection technician slot opened for us active duty 1A1x1's and I'm trying to get some information. Granted I know this is a pilot forum but the few like USMC who's a pilot might be able to drop some info on it.
I heard 18-24 months to become fully qual'd. How much of that is ground school before I would be flying again.
If anybody has some good info I'd appreciate it it.
Thx

I'm currently in Det 1. I can answer all of your questions.
Feel free to PM me and we can get in contact.
But to answer your current question 18-24 months to be fully qual'd, yes. Most of the training is OJT (on the job training) while flying.
Long story short, you'll be back in the air very quickly.

During initial training is it all done at Will Rodgers?
At which point of the training program would I be flying again and while doing OJT is it on the 3-4 day TDY's?
Doing tests is it the usual Air Force multiple choice along with scoring higher than 85%?
What are the times of training? (I'm just thinking about daycare,Etc)
When fully qual'd, during off weeks from flying what would I be doing?
Are work hours typical 7:30-4:30?
And finally, do you like the job? I know you are a pilot but how do the enlisted folks like it?
I'm stationed over here at Tinker so that would eliminate the PCS and save big blue $ so I'm keeping the fingers crossed.
Thanks for the info.
