meps question
i'm gonna be going up to meps in a few weeks and i've been getting papers together and what not but i have a little concern. when I was 17 my mother and I were butting heads all the time so being a minor I was sent to talk to a psychologist. basically i didnt wanna go but didnt have a choice so yeah. I told my recruiter about this and they said just get med docs on it. so the doc is writing me up a summary report of what the sessions were about, when they occured, what was discussed, his opinion etc...however these are not the original documents which include things that I had said word for word. Confidential or not...there are definetly things that I would rather not a complete stranger read about. anyways my main question is will they dq me until i get them the actual recorded docs, or do you think that the summary will be sufficient? I mean basiclly i went through what every teenage went through when growing up, except my parents were a bit overzelous and sent me to counseling.
i guess it's important to note that I discontinued my sessions about 4 months after my 18th birthday(adult or not...the rents still paid for everything) and all this was about three years ago. This will be for a First Class Naval Flight Medical. |

This will be for a First Class Naval Flight Medical. Well, there are a few determining factors.... I know for a fact that anything said in those sessions cannot be released with direct and expressed consent from you. Also, a summary and professional opinion should be just fine... Official transcripts should not be needed. As far as you being DQ'd from service, not by far. I had counseling as a kid, for a different reason, but still counseling is counseling, and I was not dq'd. Here I am now, an E6, working hard... Now the kicker for you is the Medical ticket... I really don't know enough about that to comment on it. Everything I say from this point on is pure speculation and should be followed up by professional advice. I do not think you will be dq'd, based purely on what you have told us. It depends on what the Doc writes about you... I know you have to pass a prelim. psych eval. anyhow, so as long as you pass that, I do forsee any major problems. Im sure there is some sort of waiver you can get or some rule about it being all before you were of legal consenting age... Like I said, This is all speculation... I would contact someone fromt he navy med office and see... Either way, good luck! |
okay well then i guess my real question is about the flight exam that I will have to take. I'm sure meps will be happy with what I supply but do you think that the Flight surgeon 2 1/2 years from now will want more information?

Well, that would be asking someone to predict the future... I would say, you just gotta be honest with them. Tell em what happened, and explain it...
I dont really know how your chances will be, but I think you will have a decent shot. However, I am in the Army. I know little to squat about the Airforce and Navy. |

FWIW.... in the future do not volunteer up any potential negative information. They have no way of knowing unless you tell them. Of course if you have a (adult) criminal record they will normally figure that out.
Once your "in" you will figure out how the game is played. :) The military is a machine that uses you up and spits you out. They take advantage of you. The trick is to use them(armed forces) for everything they are worth... college money, experience, ratings, contacts, etc etc. You are only a warm body to them. The military does has it's good points. It's up to you to find out what they can do for you. Just food for thought/ |
