707/E-3 FAA Flight Examiners?
Anyone know how a contact of mine could get his ATP in a 707 or E-3 sim where he works?
I know some west coast P-3 types did this a few years back. Any of you AWACers or JSTARS guys done anything like this?

But, the examiner would a) have to be a military member/contractor to ride in the jet, and b) he'd have to be a civilian Designated Pilot Examiner, rated in the 707 on his examiner letter. It'd be rare to find a military pilot with those creds. I dareday if that person existed, your friend would already have heard about it.
The sim, to my knowledge, wouldn't work because as good as USAF sims are, they're not (to my knowledge) rated for FAA checkrides/type ratings (by the FAA) as airline sims are.
What he could do is get an ATP in a Seminole, then take his AWACS Form 8 to the FSDO and let them hand him a 707 type rating on that license. No problem there.

I don't know anything about a Form 8 or military conversion to FAA, but if that procedure is valid he could take it over next week and get the type added to his commercial. When he gets his multi ATP in whatever, the type rating will upgrade with the license.

I got my commercial/instrument by taking the regs test and showing my military flight records in 1975, and the L-300 type rating was put on my certificate at that time. I got my ATP in 1976 in a Cessna 172 in 1976.
My Certificate reads:
Airline Transport Pilot
Airplane Single & Multiengine Land
B-737; B-747-4; DC-10
Commercial Privleges
L-300
English Proficient
The last time I added a rating was in 98, so could this be a new change?

Albie,
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that the MIL 707/E3 sims are up to FAA standards for a ATP check due to the fact that they don't have circuit breaker panels. Again I could be wrong about that.
If your contact is on the east coast and want's the name of a good EP that can knock out his ATP in a day if he's up to speed PM me.

There used to be a guy in the Ohio Guard (?) that was a designated FAA examiner in the 707 and he gave ATP checks to all his Guard Buds and anyone who flew 707 type planes (KC135) if you paid his expenses to get to you. I looked in to it a while ago to see if he could come out and ATP a bunch of us on a ride...he retired If anyone knows of someone still doing it PLEASE SHOUT IT OUT!
