Air Force C-17 crashes in Texas - CNN.com

sorry about the duplicate thread, didn't see that there was already one going

Olney, TX

Olney is 43 statue miles from Sheppard...unusual. Weather shows winds 200/25G34, but overcast 042 and 10 miles.

Please, God, no more.

TACC has been pushing crews to the limit lately...I've had a bad feeling for a while.

If its up near Sheppard, maybe this is an Altus jet? Is there a Low-Level out there?

MoosePileit 03-23-2009 10:15 AM

Yes, there are low levels there.

KC10 FATboy 03-23-2009 10:23 AM

CNN *might* be retracting this story. It now says the Air Force *HAS NOT* confirmed.

Anyone else seeing the same?

story says they are searching for the crash. Trust me, with the fuel load on a C-17, there's going to be a gigantic plume in the sky if they crashed.

Perhaps this was a false report after overflying some skiddish folks on a low level?

MoosePileit 03-23-2009 10:28 AM

That's right near Altus Low level routes. False alarm?

A spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety said the search for possible plane crash in southern Archer County has been called off. DPS spokesman Tony Fulton told the Times Record News searchers have found no evidence of a plane crash. He said the reports were initiated by a person or persons who saw a large aircraft flying low in the area, then disappearing late this morning. First reports indicated the plane might have been a commercial aircraft. CNN network reported a military C17 aircraft had gone down in the area, quoting Sheppard Air Force Base as a source. However, a Sheppard spokesman told the Times Record News the base here had no knowledge of a plane crash.

A large number of emergency vehicles converged in an area in Archer County north of Olney, but Fulton said no crash site was found.
