Wings are earned and meant to be worn. Wear them. It will give you a lot of credibility.

What about age? Does being over 30 disqualify you from FWQ and later attending UPT?

It shouldn't if you're already a rated aviator. I just went thru AF RW qual well above 30 although I was already flying in the guard.

Speaking of Age!

You are all answering questions I have. Just now I see the age issue brought up. Im an ARNG Helo Lt at 33, if I read the previous threads correctly is there not an age issue to transition to ANG as a previously rated aviator..... and this would also be in the same state transition.

Reaper,

I think in your situation or any one over the normal age limit, they would have to convert your rating to AF rating to give you AF wings. Because then you would be considered just like any of the old AF guys who went directly to Rucker for helo training, then later transitioned to fixed wing.

Every situation is different. I have seen guys skip Phase II and go straight to T-1s, I have seen guys wear their army wings and go through the whole program. I have seen guys get their rating converted because it was the only way they could meet medical standards and go through the whole program. It just all depends on age, medical factors and what your ANG/AFRC unit wants.

I don't think there is a way for an over 30 person to go active duty AF, because I don't think anyone would put up with the hassle of the paperwork, but I could be wrong as I have not read the AFIs on this.

Good luck to all trying to cross over to the AF side of the house.

Thanks, I have heard from scattered posts regarding the age 34 as a cutoff to go from
Army to Air Force, not sure if guard is an issue so much with age. Then again you are correct in saying active duty would not be worth the AF time. I would think that guard to guard the age might not be of issue as a currently qualified military aviator. I need to find some additional regs! Thx again

Do you know if there was an age cut off to enter AFR and go through UPT
Thx

Do I need to take the AFOQT?

For those Army aviators converting their wings from Army wings to Air Force wings under AFI 11-402, is the AFOQT required? Any former Army drivers had experience having to take the AFOQT/BAT for a UPT or military transition board?

Thanks,

I went from Army to Air Force helicopter and my wings were a straight transfer with the packet. I am at the H60 initial qualification right now.
