is there a way to get a type for one of these birds without going into the military i wana get one so i can go fight some wild fires out west

I'm not too hot on this subject, but have you tried Lockheed? It might be a heap of dough though.

Hey, too bad I didn't meet you earlier. A few years ago, in Canada there were 5-6 TBF Avengers , modified as firebombers, for sale. I think they were going for the same price as a new Cessna 172.
