Default Pilot Slot Age Cut Off ?

Can all the guys in the know give me an answer please? Is there a possiblity of starting after the age of 30?

I know the last time I looked into it you had to start UPT before your 30th birthday. I would be intrested in a Guard or Reserves slot, I don't want active duty. I have ZERO prior Military Service. I turn 30 this September so I think I'm toast!

Thanks in advance.

I made a post about this in a thread about 12 hours ago:

Yes, you're toast. There's no way for you to get to UPT before September. There are waivers, but I'd put it at .0069%. I couldn't tell you anything about them though, as I'm likely to be in UPT before I'm 23.

Since you could be in UPT less than one year after the cutoff, you might explore a waiver...their availability depends on service needs and how pushy your sponsoring unit is. Also consider the army reserve/army national guard, I think their cutoff is low/mid thirties right now.

Default Never Give Up

John:

While the odds are 0.069 (or less), if you want to try, call some units.

An age waiver is probably zero. A squadron will do this for a guy who has been there for years (say, a navigator, and the unit is converting to an airplane with no navigators), but for a guy off the street, I'd call it zero.

BUT: if some unit had a guy lined-up to go to UPT in Sept, who then fell out, they might be looking for a quick stand-in. I don't know if you could jump all the hoops in time, but you won't know unless you try.

You would have the best chances at units that are WAY off the beaten-path that historically cannot fill their manning. Wyoming, North Dakota, and South Dakota come to mind (although I don't know if they have Guard or Reserve units in those states due to closures in the last few years).

There's an old fighter-saying: "A fighter pilot never gives up until he's dead, and then he doesn't care." Pretty good advice, actually.

Good luck. Don't give up.

FWIW...ANG units have a lot more input into things such as this (i.e. getting an age-waiver for their pilot-candidate).

It is my understanding that AFRC (Reserve) will not, at the present time, consider anyone over the age cutoff (even if a unit desires such). I believe that policy was reinforced by the last commander of AFRC.

Wish this wasn't the case, but that might provide some help in your search.
