Moose, thou speaketh the truth. I've had to deal with the Dice-man and Comrade on several occasions.

Wasn't it painful! Well, as reservists we don't have to worry about them anymore. I really enjoy the leadership and camaraderie we have in the reserves. All good guys and gals...kind of like a fraternity...but with some chicks in it. Only a couple of guys trying to make it to the top but they are not stabbing anyone to do it so they have all our support. Love the reserves. I'll bet we know one another if you spent some time at TCM.

What does any of the previous 3 pages have to do with the Pope Wing/CC getting fired?

Apparently many wish he wasn't the only one who was removed from his or her position.

It's just bantering on the culture that sends many of the turds to the top.

Marsea,

I am assuming that you are ex-Navy and not Tac Air. In that case I can understand where you get your opinion of Military leadership. However, don't paint every leader in the Military with the same broad brush. I have had excellent front offices everywhere I have gone. I have also observed some real tools making it to the top. Just like anywhere else, occasionally crap floats to the top. Unfortunately you apparently got stuck with the crap.

Marsea,

Thanks for summarizing the entire military based on your poor "personal experinece". Let me guess you had one (maybe two) tours in P-3's?

Don't insult those who serve. You may have served but you haven't EARNED the right to insult us.

Cheers,

Marsea,
Your one cynical P-3 bub. You were commissioned a Navy Officer first. Taxpayers expect more than simply a weapon operator. Taxpayers not ripped off unless you failed to deliver as an officer. When I was an 0-2 Div O in my fleet sqdrn learned enormous skills from the senior enlisted. Was glad to make the sailors I was responsible for have a better deal. Got some to college, got some promoted faster, got some commissioned. All about mentoring and giving back. You know, leadership, doing the job the taxpayers expect. Didn't worry about my career, but the same sailors made it good. Met the dirtballs too, but you know what they said "When is his COC/PCS?". Had no effect on my opinion that most of the leadership were competent. Won't denigrate the entire military because morons can prosper as well. Continue to have my frustrations with the Navy, that's life, but man, your bitterness isn't the half of it.

Instead how well you could push paper around and use your acting skills to immaturily impress your Department Head got you somewhere (did not do as well here).
Continuing to hijack thread, but this deserves some discussion. You do realize the folly of this logic, don't you? If every aviator had the attitude of "I'm a (fill in the service) aviator. That's what they pay me for, and I'm the best at what I do--that's why I'm here, and that's the only reason I'm here. I'm here to fly, not do paper work or staff work"-- then the taxpayer would be ripped off. It's that kind of attitude that would surely lead to poor leadership. Can you imagine a commander's level of concern for his people and the unit's mission with that kind of mindset?

Your first duty is to learn your job, but once you have that mastered leadership expects you to continue your leadership development by accepting more responsibility, and that entails doing the work that's needed, red-tape, bureaucratic paperwork included. Complaining about it doesn't solve anything, and you're an impediment to the unit's success at that point. No wonder you didn't have a good experience in the military--by the sound of it you were part of the problem; likely one of those guys who when he wasn't flying thought he could just sit back and let the other guy do the boring stuff. But to you he was the suck up; the staff puke.

As much as you think of your aviation skills I'll bet there was someone else in that unit who was just as good. But if a commander saw that he was working at the other jobs that needed doing who do you think he valued more? Yes, being a good stick and an expert in your airframe is highly valued and needed, but if a CC has an "A+" pilot who doesn't pull his share of the load when he's not flying vs. an "A" to "B" who nugs out the work when he's not flying is worth more to him during peacetime and combat.

Yes, careerism can go too far; we've all seen it where it appears an officer is more about getting promoted than anything else. That's not the guy I hold as an example here. But such an individual is probably worth more to his CC than the guy who checks out after he's done with his flying duties for the day.

Now, back to the thread--any updates on why this guy was fired?
