Navy-Enlist then OCS

I am a college graduate with some flight time (roughly 800) and almost all ratings except MEI and ATP. Being a permanent resident in the US, I'm not eligible to apply direct to any of the officer programs. So I was thinking, since I could apply for my citizenship as soon as I get out of basic, what would be the odds to apply for the OCS as enlisted? Is it harder to get accepted into the OCS if I'm enlisted compared to just off the street applicant? I have a pretty strong GPA from college. Any insights? Thanks in advance

There are numerous enlisted commissioning programs available (Seaman to Admiral Program - STA 21 for example). They are all very competitive. The strong GPA will certainly be helpful - but how you do in your job will in the military will play a major factor also. Good luck to you if you decide on this course.

Do you plan on being a Naval Aviator? Or something else? Could get you in touch with some credible Navy Officer recruiters that would be more informative and timely info with current landscape. Send private message if you desire. Hundred other issues which you are asking, but could get a better starting point for you for us to provide follow on perspective.
(navy reserve bub who is always a recruiter for all services <g>)

USMC, I was told I'm not even applicable to STA21, because I already have a degree?

Saltydog, check your PM please. Thank you in advance.

STA 21 is only one of many commissioning programs.

Being enlisted will NOT lower your odds of getting a commission, it should make you more competitive. That is one thing the Navy has always gotten right...they will even allow enlisted in critical-shortage skills to become officers, even if they lose them to another community.

Be aware that officer-material enlisted should be stellar performers...they will consider your enlisted evaluations to make a decision.

Also consider the navy reserve...that will pretty much punch the same ticket as AD as far as getting you noticed.

Yes it is. With all due respect, seems like the Navy does not have a whole lot of options for sailors who want to be a Naval Officer who already have a degree. Probably because of the fact that unless you are stuck in a situation like me, a smart person wouldn't enlist before applying to OCS I guess.

USMC, I meant someone that already has a college degree. At least that's what I've been hearing. In my case, that would be only way to qualify me to apply to OCS, so that's why I'm considering that route.
