Mac questions

I have a macbook and some IT type questions for any fellow mac users on this forum:
- Can you use a CAC reader with your macbook? If so, what reader and what drivers/software do you need? I have the SCR331 and so far no luck getting it to work.
- Can you actually install the USAF middleware software (available on AF portal) to use the CAC to check USAF webmail, log into AF portal applications, etc?
- AROWS-R questions: I have absolutely no luck with AROWS-R... I can log into it using Mozilla Firefox, but I can't actually view any of my orders. I click on the little printer icon and nothing happens. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Riddler

I can barely use firefox on reserve net. I think you need to be running IE, which is availbe for MAcs, or run windows using parallels.

For DoD...give it up. Use Windows / Intel.

I am a formally trained expert with professional experience and I was barely able to get firefox to work with some PKI apps. Mac? Fughedaboutit...

OK, it looks like I'll try using parallels. It's a shame because I really love everything else about my Mac.

I'm getting ready to partician my hard drive and install Windows on my 2008 MacBook Pro. I'll also pick up a USB CAC reader. I was in Japan for a planning conference and was AMAZED at how many DoD and civilian guys were running Macs with Windows installed. Ironically, they said Vista runs better on their Macs than ANY PC they've seen. I've got a guy (sts) who's going to step me through the process so I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

I'd partition the HD and install Windows. Then install a hard core anti virus program.

Actually, I would just never check my webmail on my Macbook Pro.

Try an SCR331 reader (instead of the standard reader) for CAC/PKI. Apparently it does not need software.

This will not resolve any website compatibility issues with safari though.

Apple - Support - Discussions - How do I access the AF Portal with ...

I don't think I used this guide, but one similar. There are a few out there, and I grabbed these from some discussions on Apple's support site. It took some tinkering, but I got it to work.

I've since received updated certificates on my card, so I'll probably have to go through this again, but hope this will start you in the right direction!

Note: You don't need middleware for Mac. You will be adjusting your settings using the OS X Keychain

I use fusion with win xp installed. Middleware, cac reader, arows, and webmail all work just fine.
