question about reserves and school?
If someone were to join the reserves or national guard (any branch) and was a full time university student, could they be called up to active duty
or full time and be forced to exit school? thanks in advance. |

Yes. Unlike actual employment, there are no protections for students. Ie the school does not have to allow you to pick up where you left off, or refund your fees. I imagine you would get incompletes and have to repeat all of those classes.
That being said the military will often entertain requests to defer mobilizations to allow you to finish a semester. Not always, but I would say more often than not. There are a lot of students in the reserves, they don't want to **** them all off. |
You'll usually get pretty good notice far enough in advance to prepare. Short notices happen, but not that often.

I was given 4 hours notice back in 2005

Ummm,
if you don't want to leave school, then join ROTC. Reserves and Guard pay/benefits likely better than a part time job (Mostly for the Guard since some states provide free schooling for their Guard folks) National Guard Education Benefits But, as mentioned, they are paying you to be available if needed. Joining the Guard/Reserve should still mostly be about service. Duty-honor-country Service before self Semper Fi Commitment Selfless Service |
