Do most Guard slots require that you have the AFOQT scores AND TBAS completed before you complete the application?

I finished my AFOQT in September with good scores (99,99,99,98,97). So I'm pretty excited in that department.

The [active duty] recruiter I spoke with to get the AFOQT test done said that he wants to bring me in for the initial medical screening next. However, I am weary of doing so because I feel that I might be disqualified for my vision being out of the parameters.

The recruiter also said that it was necessary for me to do that medical screening before he can sign me up to take the TBAS, which will then give me the PCSM score to put on my applications.

So in short, I guess.. is there any work around to get to take the TBAS before they check my vision in any way, shape or form? I was always told that if you can ace the Guard interview and get a UPT date, then getting a waiver for the vision is practically a non-issue (providing you can be correctable 20/20, which I am).

Any thoughts? Hope this isn't too much of a thread creep :D

For Guard and Reserves you will need to take the AFOQT. When you combine that score with your flying time it calculates a PCSM score. We look at that, grades, past jobs (for the big picture), police record, where you live, etc.
During the interview you will be asked how much you will participate and what your long term goals are, among other things.......

First off...build a resume and send it to some units along with transcripts, copies of your FAA tickets and a cover letter....better if you have your AFOQT and PCSM scores.

I interviewed and hired a Mesaba pilot a couple weeks ago. It's not unheard not for commuter pilots to get hired at Guard and Reserve units. Just start sending out apps....mail them first..some units freak if you fax or email them. I don't, but some folks do.

You smoked the AFOQT. Nice job. The initial medical screening he's talking about is MEPS. That's a joke. I'm sure you can take the TBAS before doing MEPS. Call up an ROTC det. and see if they can hook you up. Hell, show up and bring donuts.

How bad is your vision? It's usually pretty much an auto-waiver up to 20/200 from what I've heard. A few guys I know have an acquity waiver.

Dude these scores would definitely disqualify you in my unit! The only difference between monkeys and our pilots is that we don't always soil ourselves :D In all seriousness pick up the phone and start calling different units. Start in the jobs wanted section of baseops.net. Good luck!
