Default Military Xmas memories

Just want to see what some of the military Xmas memories people have. Since I'm suggesting, I'll start.
Remember when my dad was in the air force, was about 10 years old. Stood out on the flight line with my dad to wait for Santa's arrival, and watched as this F-16 landed on the runway, taxi in, shut down and the canopy come open. Little did I know it was "Santa" until he climbed down the ladder and handed a big bag of presents to the line crew. Probably my best military Christmas memory.

Perhaps I am wrong, but most of my Christmases with the Air Force, I'd like to forget.

AMC ... another missed Christmas

Or from another era, MAC, "missed another Christmas". I'd have to say that Christmas overseas was among the very best, not deployed. Our squadron at Kadena rigged up a tug and weapons carts into a Christmas train, and Santa drove the squadron from house to house for "hospitality calls" at all the senior officers homes. Santa later came down the hoist of an HH-53 on a forest penetrator and the PJ's, elves, passed out gifts for all the kids. Hope everyone here has a very Merry Christmas!

Christmas, 1968 was spent at Phu Cat AB, RVN. There was a cease-fire and so we weren't doing any weapons loading that day, so we played cards and for the first time in my life, I got drunk. Or should I say that my hooch-mates got me drunk. That slow gin fizz can really knock the stuffing out of a person. I woke up in jail, after (or so I'm told) running down the street with nothing on but my combat boots and flack jacket. Ah, the good ole days.

I spent last Christmas at some rich guam-noid's house eating pig, turkey, fresh fish and about anything else you could ask for. Free beer all night (guy own's the islands bottling company). Coulda been the next best thing to being home. They invited our whole unit up, it was great.

Christmas 1992: Enroute to Mogadishu on a Tower Air 747, we arrive at Shannon, Ireland for a fuel stop at 0800, Xmas morning. They actually let us off the airplane and into the terminal (in desert cammie uniforms). We proceeded to pound Guinness for the next 2.5 hours at the nearest airport bar, then got back on the plane. One of my more memorable holidays while in the Marine Corps.

They (we) still do that. At my last assignment the parents were tasked to buy books for Santa to hand out to the respective children.
