Naval Aviation
I am looking for (and would greatly appreciate) any helpful suggestions for the application process for the Officer recruitment track. I will be contacting a recruiter soon and just wanted to get a good idea of what I should expect and any lessons learned...
Thank you! |

Thank you! But a word of caution, READ A LOT BEFORE before you ask. USMCFLYR |
Whoa! its airline pilot forums in military mode... Looks like awesome information so far, thank you for the quick response!

I can see from your picture that you like Globals. I would go with the USAF because you could fly a G-550 instead of a Navy G-III. I know neither of those are Globals, but the G-550 is pretty close. ;)

But a word of caution, READ A LOT BEFORE before you ask. USMCFLYR The advice above is great. READ everything and ask questions before you sign anything. I had a great experience flying in the military and would not trade it for anything, but I was lucky in that I got what I wanted. This was during the Viet-Nam build-up and the regs were looser and recruiters just wanted to fill quotas and seats. Today, one needs to really check out all the options available to you. Be informed and ask a lot of questions. Know what you're signing and then sit back and enjoy the ride. Uurraahhhh ! G'Luck Mate:) BTW, I love the "handle". "Mach Tuck"...been there done that and what a ride ! |

+1 on this one. Airwarriors is very unforgiving to those asking questions that have been asked over and over.
Thank you all so far for the great responses!!! |

Are you talking about life as a naval officer specifically, or life as an officer in any branch?
Sort of Marine boot camp specific. I remember taking my GF at the time to see that movie (not too long before I was going to OCC), and she leaned over to me and said "WHY are you willing to do anything like that?" That movie is one of the iconic ones for sure. USMCFLYR |
