A Military Poser in the ALPA Magazine?
Gents -
On the BaseOps.net forum, there is a discussion about an American Eagle F/O who appears in the April ALPA Magazine. In the article he claims to be a F-16 pilot in the NJ ANG.
Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any evidence that he actually is one.
Ordinarily, this wouldn't be a reason for discussion, except for the fact that this particular F/O appears as the feature in a column titled "ALPA Code Of Ethics ROLE MODEL".
I did a little Google-snooping last night and, indeed, there appear to be some holes in this F/O's claim. I do not want to question a man's integrity if he is straight-up, so I'm hoping that someone here can help provide some additional info to validate his story.
Can anyone help shed any light on this? Any Jersey Guard dudes here?
The thread on BaseOps has a scan of the ALPA article, as well as the discussion that calls some of Mr Martins' claims into question.

WOW! That new poster popping up at the right time with other stuff disappearing is awfully interesting. Good job exposing what might be an imposter guys. That thread was as interesting as some of the ID TV episodes.

BaseOps is definitely having some issues this morning; I just clicked on the link to check and it's not working currently.
The link is good...the service just appears to be intermittent.

Great lead for some investigative reporting.
I called the offices today and was able to reach a Mr. "Bubbi" Smuckatelli the #8VP in charge of marketing, who just happened to be in his office looking for his golf clubs. He responded to my question on ethics by stating "I don know knutin' 'bout dat."
He seemed excited about their magazine and said that many bird owners had praised the plastic jacket for it's utility and further stated it was a good platform to list their many victories even if they were not really responsible for them.
He said there were big plans to start a "junior miss" and "Dancer" magazine in efforts to unionize these groups. Inroads with OSHA have already been plowed to limit the use of high heels in these occupations he proudly stated.
He further praised recent congressional action to cut the bottom line on the airlines saying this would surely help the union, but he could not state exactly how.
Before signing off due to the urgency of his tee time, he asked if I had a line on any crews who might be able to bring him some of those "Carroway" golf clubs from the Orient.
I thanked him for his valuable input.

I went to the same puppy mill that guy did. When I saw the article, I thought I recognized him, but when it said he flew fighters, I thought it must not be the same person. I went to Regional Airline Academy in '06, and the only military guys there either didn't finish UPT or were old retired guys instructing there. If he was wearing 1 stripe epaullets in his facebook pictures, he was either a private, instrument or commercial student. I don't understand how his timeline could work out. I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt the story in the ALPA mag is true. Why would someone with military training pay a couple Gs at a pilot mill for a private or commercial license? Maybe he had an incentive ride in an F16 and told the reporter that he had flown F16s?
