True - I took the 3 service memebers as being USAF, but I'm sure they could have been from any service.

Yes the Corps, my grammar and spelling is good but the shift key on my laptop is a little unreliable.

Due to the controversy over the osprey program, I am slightly concerned that the powers-that-be may try to spin this to avoid casting any bad light on the airframe itself. Hopefully they will just be up front about whatever went down...stuff happens in the real world and in the long run honesty will be the best policy.

Hopefully it doesn't end up with worse safety statistics than other RW platforms.

EDIT: It was a USAF bird, not USMC as I assumed. Actually thinking about it I don't believe USMC has any in the A-stan.

The Osprey program reminds me of the harrier program. Does anyone know if the osprey had (has) a worse reputation than the harrier? I remember a while back watching a harrier documentary and the narrator said it was often called the “widow maker, a difficult, even dangerous plane to fly.”

I think both have a rep due to the whole powered-lift thing. PL is non-tolerant of mechanical failures, and by it's nature tends to be unforgiving of out-of-envelope pilot error. More so than RW or FW, IMO

I fly into AMA alot doing student training; and I get to see the Osprey fly, hover and somewhat be graceful. But, it still turns my stomach to watch it fly after losing a friend of mine and 18 others in an Osprey crash in Arizona almost a decade ago.

Yes - the Osprey had many detractors in its' long and less than illustrious history before it ever made it to the fleet. I see that in your edit that you realized it was a USAF bird - thus my initial confusion why you were talking about the Corps' spin on this mishap.

Rw or FW :confused: Just like the pipeline - they will have to figure something new out for this community. Maybe it will matter what phase of flight they were at the time of mishap
