Force Shaping release 26 July

No kidding; if I had already been approved for separation why would I care if I got passed over? The guard/reserve ain't gonna care and if you deserved to get promoted, you still will. Let some other poor working stiff get promoted in your place.
I got passed over on active duty for L/C because I put in my papers and subsequently got stop-lossed and held over until my primary L/C board. They sent me a nice letter saying that they didn't typically promote guys who had separation paperwork in but if I'd like to pull my papers, they'd be happy to consider me for promotion. I decided to keep my date of separation and my Reserve job.
Didn't make a difference in the Reserve and they promoted me to L/C anyway.
No need to get bitter about it.

With promotion rates in the 90s, if a guy needs to help to get promoted now adays to major by someone separating, then maybe he/she shouldn't be promoted in the first place. I don't think people want folks in the bottom 10% to be in a leadership role.

Yet every promotion board we whine about some poor SOB who WE think should have made Maj but didn't. You just can't keep everyone happy.
In the meantime, from the outside looking in, I do not see it as a legitimate gripe that the USAF doesn't promote people who are in the process of separating. Tell me the name of another business that will promote you after you give your notice of quitting?
Find something more important to whine about, it's not like it's that hard.

Records
Sad as it may be, you must remember they promote the record and not the individual. You can be a great guy with a crappy record and not get promoted. You can be a crappy guy with a great record and get promoted. That's why a records review (and hopefully a second opinion from someone in the know) is a must before sending it up for a promotion board. All squares must be filled and correct buzz words in place. I'm definitely not defending the system, just calling it like it is. Happy New Year!

I moved my DOS up with ease. I submitted the MFR on the last Friday in Dec and since my MPF separations people are either TDY or deployed long term, I called the VSP guy at AFPC to check on it. The guy was very nice and helpful, he found my MFR and told me it was going up for review that day. The next day Virtual MPF was updated with my new DOS. 2 week turn-around. If anyone needs the number, PM me.

More Force Shaping/VSP?
Wonwee,
I didn't know there was a specific "VSP guy" at MPF. I'd appreciate the info...I'll PM you.
I just heard a rumor that the AF has decided that they need to do another round of Force Shaping this year. Has anyone else heard the same?
