UAV Sensor Operator

I may have the opportunity to join the air national guard as a sensor operator. Any input on pros/cons of the job, as well as training would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Not a bad gig. Military benefits, front line operations (probably), home at night, opens a lot of doors.

Get on this band wagon and milk it for all it is worth. UAV ops will only increase which will provide for some serious job security.

Definitely front line operations. Home at night (or during the day depending on the shift and how the unit manages the schedule). Not a lot of TDY time after your initial training.

From my perspective the pros are: Low TDY tempo, making a difference for the guys on the ground, lots of full time (AGR spots and Title 10 time)

Cons: 24/7 ops, someone has to work holidays/weekends

Thanks for the input, sounds like I will try and do it. What is title 10 time?

Be sure you have no beef about smoking someone with a drone. I understand they are having problems with people who are having difficulty pushing the button. I'm not saying go in all gung ho and proclaim you want to smoke all the terrorists you can find. Just do a little soul searching prior and see if this fit works for you.

NDCFI 06-26-2010 07:30 PM

I understand that's the job. Won't be a problem.

How would they feel if you started painting little crecent moons on your consol for every kinetic event?

NDCFI:

Any reason you're not going the pilot route? With CFI time, you'd be leaps ahead of the competition. We just had a former FAR instructor sensor come through as a new Lt/pilot. You might be extremely bored/frustrated when the dude in the left seat does something completely stupid and drags you to a Class A/SIB. Just be ready to hit the Rack Switch button...
