You make it sound like once you have the CL restriction it's with you for life!! Umm no, when you get your ATP it comes off. Can't think of an CL thrust aircraft you can get an ATP in these days.

No, Flight Safety (by company policy) will not allow military guys going through as part of the MC-12 course have their checkride count as an ATP or Type Rating if their commercial ticket has the CL restriction.

However, I have anecdotally heard of them bending this rule...just looking to see what peoples' experiences have been lately.

I wouldn't want to show up with the ATP written complete, only to be told that I couldn't have the checkride count for the ATP/Type because of the CL restriction.

As a 142 facility, I imagine there is a list of type ratings and licenses they are authorized to issue. I wonder, is the exam to remove the CL Thrust limitation treated like an additional class? If so, maybe they cannot do class add-ons.

Maybe there is an additional liability exposure since it gives the pilot the authority to fly planes other than, in this case, the 350. Example, F16 driver does this at FSI, gets the CLT limitation removed, and 6 months later loses an engine in a rented 310 and does a VMC roll into the departure end of the runway. The Feds come looking at his training that allowed him to fly a 310.

Fellas, granted I went through back in May '09, I had the CL restriction removed at FSI, ATL. I asked about it and was told I'd need additional academics on VMC aerodynamics, etc. I was also told I'd need to have additional training in the sim as well as perform a VMC demo on my ATP checkride. Initially I thought I'd have to pay for it ($500 or so), but they hooked me up.

I've heard through the bro-network, however, that FSI may NOT be doing this anymore. I think within about two days of hearing that I heard they ARE hooking the AF bros up. BL: show up w/your ATP written complete and ask about the CL restriction removal. Even if you have to pay for it it's worth it to get an unrestricted (single pilot) type rating on the BE300 and your ATP.

First, talk it over with your CC to make sure he/she's on board. Your unit won't get backfill while you're gone, but CCs worth their salt will support this if they can.

Second, call your Assignment Officer for your platform at AFPC/DPAO (Operations assignments) to see what's available. It's getting pretty busy right now as they finalize the VML so you may get the shoulder, but generally anyone talking about volunteering for a deployment will get a ready response - write an obvious Subj line. If that doesn't work, ask your CC to call/email, and you should get an answer within ~24 hrs.

It looks like one of you fellas who are volunteering took my place. Thanks! My squadron didn't take too long finding another deployment for me though. I'm going to the 'Deid early next year...
