Default Is anyone in the ANG 159th or 147th Fighter wing?

Hi guys I'm wanting to get in with one of these two units to fly F-16's or F-15's because they are located closer to my home area and it would work out very well. I'm trying to get an application together for me and could use a little help on that as well. I'll be reading through all the helpful guides up front tonight.

Anyway I don't have much flight time. I only have around 1300hrs with 100hrs multi and the rest of the part 135IFR requirements. Both units have openings so I was wondering if any of you were part of them and could give me some insight. Would recomendations from any Lt. Col's here at the Laughlin AFB make a difference? That's about as high up the chain as I go. I met a few full birds but only met them while I actually work with the Lt's because of the program I'm doing with them. Very nice guy. Actually was a Northwest pilot who left and came back to the Airforce lol... So if anyone can offer me some tips or a way to get my paperwork pushed through that would be great. I've met all the requirements they have listed. However my degree was in Aviation Sciences from Baylor University. Some of them list that you need a 4yr degree with one in business or management preferred so I guess I'm screwed there. Thanks for any advice.

I'd avoid the 147th unless you want to fly a UAV. They were targeted on the last BRAC and probably won't have fighters by the time you'd return from training.

Really the 147th? Why the hell would they give them UAV's? How did you find this out? And what does BRAC mean lol? I don't see why they'd be looking for an F-16 guy if they are about to go UAV.

I have friends in the unit...it is true.

As someone who is looking to fly fighters or for any guard unit, you really should already have a clue about this. You need to do some research. Start here: http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita.../ellington.htm

No I shouldn't really have a clue seeing as I'm not in the unit. I go to the ANG website and read what they have and go to the unit's website there and read what they have there. After doing so I then go to multiple pilot forums and see if I can find someone there to get the lowdown which would then lead me to this conclusion. However the article I read does not talk abotu UAV. It also states that since 25% of the oil is from there the state of Texas is recommending leaving it.

Third paragraph from the bottom. If you really want to be a mil pilot you should have know what the BRAC was! Whatever, good luck, I'm done with you.

If the State of Texas decides to change the organization, composition and location of the 147th Fighter Wing (ANG) to integrate the unit into the Future Total Force, all personnel allotted to the 147th Fighter Wing (ANG), including the unit’s Expeditionary Combat Support (ECS) elements, will remain in place and assume a mission relevant to the security interests of the State of Texas and consistent with the integration of the unit into the Future Total Force, including but not limited to air mobility, C4ISR, Information Operations, engineering, flight training or unmanned aerial vehicles. Where appropriate, unit personnel will be retrained in skills relevant to the emerging mission.

You only need a commercial instrument and a four year degree to be considered for a UAV assignment. ANG UAV unit's have actually sent guys to UPT to get them qualified to fly UAV's (total waste if you ask me...but a great deal for the student), because you need to be a rated officer. UPT is considering creating a UAV track that doesn't fly the -38.

I think the world is coming to an end.

Anyway, that might help someone like you.

TD,

I think you are very sharp for telling Slice he's a dumb@ss and you don't need that info. All he's done is fly for a 121 airline and F-16s in the ANG.

You need to get an Eagle and avoid idiots like him. I'm sure us Eagle guys would love to help you. C'mon down to Tyndall and we'll get you trained up. Its a piece of cake program, and with the skills I know you'd bring to the fight you would tear right through the program.

Can't wait to see you here...

And we aren't on a BRAC list down here...(not that YOU need to worry about any stuff like that...)

SNAP. Sounds like a perfect fit down here in NOLA. See you at the hiring board next month.

This is what it takes for me to finally post on this site....
