Nov. AFRC BOARD

I know the board is still quite a few months away, but I am curious if anyone can shed some light on this for me. I have been sponsored by a unit and have been told that the boards are continually getting more and more competitive so I am wondering if anyone could give me an idea of my chances.

When I left the program as an Operations Officer who had sent maybe 20 UPT candidates to the board successfully-- Outstanding! That was 5 years ago

Based on the folks we have getting selected you are VERY competitive.

I'm in no position to tell you if you're competitive or not, but for comparison's sake I'll tell you what I just got selected with (June 2011 board). GPA and hours a little lower than yours (currently regional CA), AFOQT 80s/90s across the board, PCSM a lot lower than yours. Also had glowing rec from the chief pilot of my unit, dunno if this is standard for all the units, I assume it is but he really did an embarrassingly good job of writing about me in a flattering light. In my package I had some other letters of rec too from random people (former supervisors, check airmen, etc.) but none compared to the chief pilot's.

Last board I sat on had very impressive numbers. Board interviewed 30+ out of hundreds of applicants. All candidates had outstanding scores so the actual test scores weren't the deciding factor. Total time was a plus but bottom line -- Drive and initiative to be in the unit (ie join the Guard/Reserve in any capacity/job) and knowing the unit members (ie drop by on UTAs - training weekends) were huge. This board tended to sway heavily toward the current military member as a measure of commitment toward our own. If you are interested in ever getting on with a Guard/Reserve unit, they really do (atleast in my experience) try to promote from within as a reward for one's hard work and aspirations. Plus this is a great way for the unit to 'test drive' someone to see if the person fits the unit.

All good points! I sent 3 LMs to UPT and 1 F/E, who had been a crew chief. Hard working guy, that one.
