I landed a couple hours after it happened. The ditch that intake dug had to have been 12 inches deep and 40 feet long! Regardless, that jet's toast.

I wouldn't count it out just yet. This jet was rebuilt, a few years later the pilot punched as it went of the end of the runway. It was rebuilt a second time, flew in the USAF for a few more years. It's now flying in the Israeli Air Force.

Notice the square cut out of the canopy...that's how the pilot got out of this one!

That's really impressive! I was on a mishap board following a Harrier crash. There wasn't too much damage aside from a large crack in the port bulkhead from the canopy rail down to the nose gear door. Unfortunately, that crack compromised the structural integrity due to it being located in the cockpit (pressurization). The Corps scratched it.

Standing next to this F-16 on it's flatbed trailer, it appeared the fuselage was buckled pretty good from the impact. Then again, the -16 probably costs 3x's as much as a Harrier and the AF has the funds...so anything's possible!

Banjo was that you with the wave off first pass on Thursday? We barely got in ourselves in a T-39...saw a Hawk wave off behind us.

Fixed it for you.

Yeah, that was me. We had two singles converge on us from both directions and the one landing in front of us missed his landing spot (landed early) AND missed his taxiway! It was a little odd forming up as -2 on a Cessna on down wind!

I understand the PW engines have had a history of AB nozzle issue, ie it won't come out of burner.
