C-17 in Beijing, China

hey all,

We followed a C-17 yesterday afternoon departing Beijing China. It had McGuire on the tail.

Does anybody know what it would have been doing there and where it went. It didnt follow the regular track to PANC.

It got me thinking, how fast do these things cruise, how high and what sort of range. Would they make PANC from PRC?

regards

Probably an embassy support mission. Cruise about M.74, depending on load and fuel configuration (later ones had a center wing tank), it could make PANC or get an A/R over the Aleutians. Routing was probably different due to no Russian dip clearance.

If it was a VP support, I'll bet it wasn't the only one. Used to do a lot of Pres/Vice supports back in the day. They sure pack heavy.

Since 2008 the United States has charged at least 57 defendants for attempting to spy for China
