What a tough old bird. Kind of like the old Timex, takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
A fine squadron commander lost his drone squadron a few years back at Tyndall when he "skipped" off the water. Can't publish the accident report info but this was an honest mistake. Good news is he and jet both landed safely.

My military flying ranged from UC-123 tree top level spraying in Vietnam to photo reconnaissance at 70,000 ft in the RB-57F. The T-37/38 in UPT were fun. None were as REWARDING as flying C-141 airevacs from Vietnam back to the states. Often the Mission is far more important then the aircraft.

We have had the same accident happen in Canada too. Had a chap fly a CF-104 too low and bounced off a frozen lake near Cold Lake (I'm sure a few folks on this forum have spent sometime there) However, he did later have to punch out as the gear would not extend. On that note here is an interesting link to a website tracking ejections

Also going back to the Weed.. Best served ice cold, warm it was like drinking a mouthful of fish hooks!

Agree! Doing circles in the sky and hitting a tanker every 30 minutes or so is not exactly fun IMO. But neither is standing strip alert!!
