Square Tail P-3

I once mentioned to some Navy P-3 types that I had seen a "square tail" P3 at Kwajalein Missile Range. The looked at me in disbelief. Finally found a picture.

It seems that I have seen some pretty strangely modified P-3s out in the fleet myself at various times. Not sure if I have seen that one or not.

Talk about directionally stable. Vmca is for suckers.

block30 12-04-2012 01:03 PM

So what's the purpose of the modification?

Well that is where I have seen them hanging out on the ramp though I never knew the designation or what their purposes was either.

Well I bet that P-8 is even better...

Give some thought to starting a new thread in the military section about the P-8A and the process that any new NAs might encounter.
I'd like to hear about the career path and airplane.

Can do. Career path is the same for the VP community as it was before with P-3's. What will be different is how BAMS (UAV's) plays into it, which I don't think anyone really knows yet.

The plane is an total beast to fly! The difference with a P-3 is night and day! It is pretty nice to see how the rest of aviation has been flying for the past 20+ years.

Thanks for the info.
Answered the other thread before I saw your answers in this post; but lay it out over there if you don't mind.

jmetx07- Since the P-8 is a 737, do you think flying the P-8 is a good way to build hours and get my foot in the door with the airlines? How do you select what plane to fly in flight school?
