Did those who separated/retired have to do any admin stuff to sell back leave?

Why do that? Use terminal leave and collect all of your allowances and medical coverage. |

One of the reasons to sell leave is the condition of the economy. When I retired, no one was hiring. I worked right up to the last day and then had 90 days of base pay to tide me over for a few months while I looked for a job. Of course, the optimal is to get hired just before you retire, take terminal leave, and start training with your airline. The guys that pulled this off were my heroes!!
I had no reason not to, I didn't have a job lined up. The check that came to the direct deposit some time later was a nice infusion to the checking account. EFD01 - no....I don't remember having to do anything special to request for the leave payback. USMCFLYR |

My understanding is that once on terminal it's only base pay. No fly pay or BAH. Same with selling back leave. Anyone know for sure?
I think you get BAH/BAS, not sure about incentive pays. |
Base pay and I think it's automatic (at least it used to be).

Never sell leave, it's taxed to about 25% at the federal level and you don't have benefits or incentive pays for the period you sell you only get your base pay/BAH/BAS. I know it seems tempting, but you'd be best to not do it.

Your paycheck on terminal leave should be the same as it was before (I.e. you get BAS/BAH flight pay etc). When you sell leave back you only get your base pay which is why most people say its a bad deal but each situation is unique based on what you do or don't have lined up. The 25% tax is an IRS rule but you will probably get some of that back when you file taxes for that year based on your other income and deductions.
