Guard Hiring in the face of the sequester

Anyone heard anything about hiring in the post sequester era? Is it state by state or did the NGB give out blanket guidance? One state told me they have a freeze, the other said they haven't received any guidance yet. Anyone know?

It would be by state, since they have ultimate control. Although that could certainly be affected by federal cuts in things which the guard depends on the fed for.

I use to work for the MS ANG as a civilian load planner...... I worked at a CRTC (Combat Readiness Training Center) where they had about 85 AGRs on staff there. Last week they terminated 26 AGR contracts effective immediately....just a sign of the times.

I hate to say it but don't ever rely on the government for anything. I truly don't think that retirement is going to be there when we need it. The military will chew you up and spit you out when its most convenient for them. Service before self...until you're terminated.

I'm currently at the Rock transitioning to the C-130 and life is pretty uncertain for us ANG/USAFR guys as well. Considering I just transfered from AD to the ANG under the Palace Front program. My orders, and some of the Reservists and fellow Guardsmen in my class, have the stipulation "Authorizations to cite the current or next fiscal year DOES NOT constitute authorizations to obligate funds until approved by Congress." It could be interesting times indeed, fortunately I have a civilian job to go back to, some of my buddies in class don't..

True statement and brutally honest!

Our manning doc was froze on 1 March, hired before that, probably good, nothing until October for new hires....but that is the nowcast.

I suspect this might become a possibility for those that are currently on long-term orders to the end of this FY. I'm on that type of order now at a COCOM and have been hearing such rumors.

I believe the hiring freeze affects the full time positions. We are still going to hire part timers as far as I know.

Fixed it for you.

This is something people should have waken up to a long time ago. Never mind the military, all those sheep out there that think of gov't as a safety net should've learned a GIANT lesson from Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Sandy was a friendly reminder. When the chips are down, the only one looking out for you, is you.
