I marked on the sheet for reimbursement of the $100-150 for the ATP written. Luckily the lady that works for higher power caught what the VA was about to do. They were going to charge me 1 month benefit for that stupid test. Even less efficient. I was able to get it reversed, but if you've spent any time on the phone with the VA, you can guess how fun it was.
My kids won't be in college for a while. I'm not sure the benefit will be there when the time comes.

Legally they can revoke the benefit after-the-fact, but politically it will be a tough sell.

Yeah I'm going to let my wife use 2 years of it and I'm going to use a year of it for my 737 type and ATP. I'll still list our son on the eligible recipients, but with things the way they are I think we're better off to use it while we can.

I did the 737NG type and ATP at higher power last summer. Cost $10k, and in turn cost me 12months of eligibility.

Does anyone know how much BAH you get if you are off active duty and using 12 months of your eligibility for a type rating that only takes a couple of weeks to get?

Do you only get E-5 BAH the 2-3 weeks you're attending the course or do you get more considering if you were in school for 12 months you would be receiving 12 months of E-5 BAH?

There is no bah for a type rating course. You submit the bill for tuition, and they determine how many months of benefits they charge based on the cost.

I paid $50/night hotel + food + travel out of pocket. The VA reimbursed higher power who reimbursed me. Took 6 or 7 months to get it back.

If you want the bang for your buck, you need to go and get your masters. Or send a family member to college.

Higher Power is a great company with great people. If the lady that handles the VA paperwork is still there, she has it down to a science. The hold up is with the VA.

I would give them a call and ask about it.

TA still covers any Part 141 flight training. Any qualifying school should have someone smart on board how to get approved for benefits.

I have been wondering what the shady VA dings you when you try to have the VA pay for the test like mpilot153 mentioned. Thanks for mentioning it- that's truly a bad deal. I'm also trying to utilize it to the max before someone in congress gets slick with stealing from it to pay for something a shady lobbyist wants... I hope you all do too!
