That assumes that our government doesn't go completely bankrupt. I'm a little worried about that myself and wonder what my other options for funding my retirement are.....

Ironically, military retirements will get cut, just a matter of when...and food stamps (and other easily-abused taxpayer-funded handouts) will continue to explode.

sorry for the thread creep
Unfortunately, if you look at it from a "voting block power" perspective, the number and type of people that care about military retirements is very small compared to the "handouts" crowd. We (mil retirees, and potential retirees) also don't tend to support the current party in charge, so they really aren't going to worry too much about ****ing us off. That's why we need to be very vocal and support our lobbying organizations.

I was just messing with you all. I understand where you are coming from with the media wearing out a word so it means something different. Kind of like discriminate. It has a negative connotation even though the word just means to choose based on factors. Gotta love it.

Amen, rick. In one of my capacities, I have a chance to interact with kids hoping to attend a service academy. My gosh, even with society in the crapper and the future looking bleak, there are some incredible kids out there. Solid values, not tied to a texting device, ready to serve others rather than demand something for nothing. First chance I get, I ask their parents, "What did you do? What should I do?" And I'll do my damnedest to make sure my own kids are a part of the solution.
