AWESOME!

Thanks for the post, I enjoyed the short clip. I noticed the old F model had those tiny engines under the wings which aren't present in the photo you posted, very cool that the bomber got a chance to evolve 50 years after retirement.

The J60 engines were used on "max altitude" missions and were taken off for
"max range" missions. They were air started at about 35,000 ft when used.

FTroop:

If they aren't using TF-33s, then what are they using?

Engines: Two Pratt & Whitney TF33-P-11 turbofans of 16,000 lbs. static thrust each, plus two (removable) Pratt & Whitney J60-P-9 turbojets of 3,300 lbs. static thrust each .

The TF-33s we flew had a modified fuel control that lowered the engines thrust
to 16,000 lbs. On a C-141 the P-7 engine had 21,000 lbs. of thrust. With the TF-33s J-60s running at full throttle (Max EGT) we did not have a shortage of power; we ran out of up elevator. We were also deep enough into the "Coffin corner" that going higher was a place we didn't want to go.

They never let us join the Blackbird association. The "F" would have been just as ugly as the U-2.

The USSR never painted their "Usiki 2Ski" black. Would have looked great taxing on snow.

In the originally posted photo the ground crew member is standing in the way. Here's a better picture of the camera (different tail number) that takes pictures of clouds during weather research. It's capabilities are show in the picture it took of booster separation during shuttle days. Guess the distance ?

In the old days (different camera ) we would use up our film over the nearest nudist colony.
