Heck....he was a little before MY time
Intruder conversion to Hornets.
He is also (in)famous for his Hornet sucking up the cat track lining on the night launch and actually getting it back aboard! Amazing aviating and calm that night. There is video out there somewhere.

Checkout this B-29 named "Spearhead" with the 5th Marine insignia on the right side, and a painting on the left side of Joe Rosenthal's infamous photograph of the flag raising on Iwo. Done in tribute to what the Marine's sacrificed so the B-29s could have a place of refuge if something happened, and a base for their escorts.
