Contractor Flying to Major Status?
Hey all,
This topic has been discussed in vast detail in other threads and forums, but I have a slightly different question regarding a specific situation.
With a slight hiring window finally opening, have any of our military bubbas who only have Military Time and Contractor Flying Time been getting any calls to the Majors lately?
I have heard thru WOM, forums, and new hires that the Majors weigh 121 time over 135 contractor flying more than we may realize. Obviously it depends on many variables to get the interview. With my stats, what would you do to boost your TT: Contractor Job or Regional?
Total Time: 1505
PIC: 1150
Turbine PIC: 975
Total Turbine: 1250
Jet: 1150 (A-10, T-38, F-16)
Internal Recs at certain Majors
ATP, FC1, etc
Currently my look back is marginal, if best, due to my current AD job. I am flying on an API 8, so only getting a few sorties per month. I have slightly less than one year left on these ADOS orders with the option to leave AD early if desired, then going back to the Reserves.
We all know the pros and cons with each option which is why this Contractor gig is so enticing: Good money and quick PIC time. If I take the ISR opportunity, I want to ensure I make a good decision while doing my best to put food on the table for my family. However, I am willing to go Regionals like many of you and eager to start the 121 career. If I go Regionals, Dave Ramsey and I would need to be best friends for a bit. I just need to get my TT up to be competitive with all of you!
It's difficult to capture the entire situation within this 2 minute synopsis, but any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
