Flying low
Flying low, slow, in a formation of lumbering cargo aircraft while constantly being shot at. That's over flat lands. Then diving into valleys and skimming ridges spraying rice crops supplying the bad guys. Doing it sometimes three times a day adding up to 541 missions in one year. My aircraft got hit by ground fire 67 times. Some Ranch Hand crew members earned three Purple Hearts during their tour.

The "Ranch Hand (12th Air Commando Squadron) reunion was scheduled this month to be a dinner in the Air Force Museum under UC-123 "Patches" the most heavily damaged aircraft in USAF history (since 1947). The reunion had to be moved to a local motel because the museum is closed for "lack of funds."
