Good Read about what's wrong with the USAF

The Whole Truth: The Tainted Prosecution of an American Fighter Pilot: Bob Harvey: 9780615933634: Amazon.com: Books

Check this out. The author self published this. It's an almost unbelievable story about the lengths the AF will go to look politically correct.

I'm glad I'm finishing my USAF career now instead of starting one.

Why is that?

Because it's incredibly poorly managed, riddled with rampant careerism, has an awful work/life balance, and the only reasons to stay- the retirement benefits- are slowly going away?

That is unbelievably unfortunate. I had no clue. Would you guys not recommend joining the ANG or reserves? Feel free to pm me if you don't wanna post it

Snickers, I'll bite…

Here are a few articles to get you started:

A Novel Journey | Thanks for your service ? but ya?ll are WAY overcompensated!

Baseops Military Aviation Forums

If you are considering a AGR/AFR position, I applaud. Thrust is mainly speaking of Active Duty - and I fully agree with his reply. The retirement benefits, which are now the easiest target, will most likely have a MAJOR overhaul within the next few years -- not just the 1% COLA.

I hope not to derail your desire, but understand that life is a changing with respects to your pay and benefits. I do not know anybody who is flying for the AGR/AFR that wants to get out. Nobody. It's all of the AD brothers who are feeling the blunt force trauma to the crotch region.

The second link I gave you, if you are not familiar, is linked to well over 1000 military pilots, mainly USAF. Lots of good information, lots of good people.

My comments were in regards to active duty. The guard/reserve is the only way to go... having the ability to say "no" is priceless.

That said, even the guard/reserve isn't what it used to be. Shrinking budgets make it tougher to turn it into a quasi full-time gig, and a small part of the active duty stupidity is starting to trickle down.

If you're interested, go read the forums over on baseops.net. It'll help explain why so many people want out of AD ASAP.
