Guard/Reserve Better

Is is really better than AD? Besides the queep and knowing what plane your going to do you miss out on certain functions like joint activities in various countries, or is that a fighter thing? Living overseas has to be exciting for someone out of college. Or is all of that overrated even though you have to find a second job?

Go spend a day or two reading the forums here and at baseops.net. Go back 5-10 pages and just read. If you still haven't answered your own question at that point, then you'd be best off pursuing other careers.

Your right, but Baseops has a lot of angry people, understandably. There have to be a few who enjoy AD. The biggest thing Baseops does is make you want to join the Navy. Airwarriors has a better vibe toward their service.

People come onto forums to vent.
If your ONLY exposure to the aviation world was APC - you'd think that every pilot was angry too. Plenty of people enjoy AD. Plenty of USAF personnel enjoy their jobs. What you learn on this forum ought to be but one more small detail of the overall picture in making an informed decision.

Who?........ :D....well enjoying your job and enjoying the other BS is completely 2 different things. But as he says, don't base your decision on what we say here. I would say most of us here have been in for some time, and just like with any job after a while there are always things to *itch about. Though, I can say that it is a completely different environment now since I was first in, and not a good thing.

The AD USAF people I work with upstairs from my office don't seem nearly as upon arms as many on this forum (as one example).
Many that I have kept in touch with from my AFROTC days don't seem to scream "let it burn" either.
I'm sure there are unhappy people, but that doesn't mean that everybody is unhappy even if it is the preferred APC view.

I would not take advice on the AF from a Marine. The overwhelming majority of 0-3's and up DO NOT like AD. I have fielded so many "I need to get off AD" phone calls. Of the roughly 70-80 AF friends I have. About 40 got out already, about 25 are trying to get out. Ten are making do, but unhappy and the remaining are happy because it all worked out well.

It's called Stockholm Syndrome.
