Insitu

I've got an opportunity to interview with these guys. I know it's not real flying but it's a good paycheck. I've been out of flying for a while and want to get back in but this would pay way more than the regionals. I thought maybe some of you military guys may have some insight on this company. Any info on QOL or schedule would be greatly appreciated.

Been looking at them for a while, everything I've seen says great company, and great company to work for. There used to be a thread...I think in the 135 section?

I worked with them on the active duty military side in 2008. The training in Bingen was a good time. UAV work is boring from an operator perspective, but for being in Iraq and not flying airplanes, it wasn't bad. Would it be a ScanEagle position?

I guess I'm slightly confused...if you are non-current and "would like to get back" a UAV job won't help.

Yeah, scan eagle operator. I'm a prior grunt but never flew in the military. Did all my flying when I got out. Mostly King Airs. Got a buddy that works for them that says he can get me an interview.

Well, I'd like to get back into flying but this pays better.

Understood. Just realize that this will not help you get recurrent or get hired.

Slight chance, but it could be turned into a manned flying gig if he either slid to a expansion on the same contract that included manned support or if he slid to another contractor that valued his mission experience and cared less about the currency.

It's a slight chance, but it's happened; I've even known of sensor operators with CFLs that got moved to the pilot seat in time because of their mission knowledge.

I realize this job doesn't really help me get back in the cockpit. But it doesn't hurt anymore than being a pipe fitter like I'm doing now. I was just wondering what the hours were like while deployed, where all they deploy to. I also hear they do deployments on ship. How long are those? Do you stay on board for the whole deployment or do they rotate operators?

Thanks for all the responses so far.

Four to six month deployments, three to four months between deployments. Pay is good but this is not a traditional flying job and is not recognized as such. If you don't mind deploying this is not a bad job, but won't further your manned flying career. As a matter of fact, it will slow your career progession because you are not in the cockpit, just like your current job. It pays enough to supplement the slave wages an entry level flying job pays if you are able to fly between deployments and if you can find an employer that will allow you to deploy, which is what I am currently doing.
