FlyinFresh, if you have any questions PM me. I make it sound like hell, but it works if you're single and can stand a little sleep deprivation:D

Sleep deprivation, not if 117 has anything to do with it. *kidding*

Ha, alright you had me scared. I'm waiting to start IOE on the 145 (different airline) and still have my 3 months of seasoning orders left at the unit. I live where the unit so that's not a big deal. While I don't have a wife or a family I do enjoy living my life and I was kind've worried about what would happen to my life when I was no kidding working for both.
The way I have it figured I'm not going to break guarantee on reserve anyway, and even if it did, for the amount of money it would warrant would probably not even be worth the extra time put in until second year pay. That said I keep it real cheap, like rent is 300 bucks cheap, so money isn't an issue. I'll trade credit to sit around the unit any day, at least that's where I'm at now. I gotta say you had me scared for a second there. Good on your for taking care of stuff at the unit. As for the commute, you transcon guys honestly baffle me, but I guess ya'll make it work. Take advantage of ADOS orders (or whatever the Air Force Reserve/Guard call them), especially if you are single. It's excellent experience, plus if you're dropping a lot of your gubment paycheck into your TSP it will pay off later:D |
Thanks everyone for the advice
I can do something that is rough on life if I know it's only for a finite amount of time. I don't want to move the wife and kid for a regional job if I'm only going to be there for a year or two. Maybe I'm being a little too optimistic on the job market but what can I do ha. |
At 800tt, I would say that, ya, that's pretty optimistic, that said it's all in who you know. Get to know folks around the guard and you could surely get some letters to the majors.

Or a least find a regional with a short stay flying on reserve. We'll see what's out there. I still have another 3-4 months before my full time orders end.
|
Well at least you're not one of those guys that waits until a week after their orders to end, then subsequently realize a herk does not drop orders like a C-17 and bumming is basically not possible. You'll get it figured out.
|
Why don't you live where your unit is based? Is bumming on the Herc possible?
