What about going straight to loadmaster? I live only about an hour and a half from Belle Chase where a C130 squadron is. VR-54 I think? I wouldn't mind working my way up from there.

If you have LM experience, it could certainly happen.

As a current VR guy......
FLSW has acquired 2 stretch Hercs from the Marines - they were sent to VR-55 in Pt. Mugu, CA. They will be acquiring 3 more that will also go to CA, making them the "legacy" Navy Reserve C-130 squadron - this applies only to the cockpit/prop configuration of the aircraft. The other 19 VR C-130's have all (or will be) upgraded to a semi-glass cockpit with Electronic Prop Control System, Engine Instrument Display System, Electronic HSI, and Garmin GPS. These "upgraded" planes will be attached to the other 4 Herc squadrons. As for an aircrew position in a Herc squadron - it all depends on what is currently available....but historically, FE's are ALWAYS undermanned. If you become a reservist and have the technical background to switch from grunt to aircrew, then there are lots of opportunities to fly if you are available. Hope this helps.... |
Thanks for helping him out. My VR experience is about 25 years old. Outdated to say the least. I remember when VR-55 was a C-9 squadron in Alameda. I actually tried to get orders there once upon a time.

PitPilot,
What VR squadron are you with? I am finishing up my AD Navy time this Fall and looking to apply to a VR SELRES board, was wondering if I could touch base with you on a few questions but it looks like I can't PM you. |

Anyone out there that is in VR-62 at the moment? Or any of the other VR squadrons for that matter?
