So if I was a KC-135 IP then a Cessna 208 IP then the Mil Comp written test would give me both CFI and MEI as well as CFII?

Unintended benefit of 365 days flying the Caravan in Afghan-land I guess.
I did the MCI CFI/II since I've only been an AF IP on single engine aircraft, but if you have your FEF from the checkride that granted your IP status on each aircraft, along with the test results, you'll be good. Every FSDO is different on what they want as proof, but the guy I met with wanted my mission check for the CFI and Instrument check for the CFII. I recommend bringing a copy of your entire FEF and give him whatever pages he thinks he needs as proof. Sheppard Air is the go to study source, but also check the how to section for the MCI. Lots of good resources to make sure you have everything you need to submit your stuff to the FSDO

I'm also a single-engine guy, first tour as FAIP. I did the MCI through SheppardAir, got my CFI/II.
First, go with SheppardAir! Got a 100% on the test, their process is perfect! Can't recommend strongly enough to follow their process to the letter, you won't be disappointed.
Second, go to the FSDO they recommend on their website for your location. That dude understands and will take care of you. The guy at Denver was a Marine reservist. He went through my FEF and made it all happen.
The only caveat, they no longer do "multi-engine centerline thrust limited" for MEI quals. So basically my CFI/II is for single-engine only, despite 1,100 IP hours in the T-38. Looks like they have a list of twin-engine fighters that do not get you the MEI endorsement (i.e. F-15, T-38, F/A-18, etc).
The process was EASY! Just take a couple of days to do the MCI prep as per ShepparAir's exact instructions, then take the test the next day, take your 100% scoresheet to the FSDO along with the required paperwork, your FEF, and your mil flight records, and all will be right in the world!
Good luck!

Thumbs down Chapped

What really chaps me is that I was a CFI, CFII in college. Never did the MEI as the $ didn't add up. I let my CFI expire and always thought I'd eventually just take an MEI and reset the CFI/CFII at the same time. When this Mil Comp came out, I thought I'd just go get the MEI added and reset via the Mil Comp. It turns out that I cannot get the MEI add on because IT WOULD reset my CFI/CFII. It's specifically excluded. The conversation went like this "Let me get this straight. The guy who never had a CFI that I gave his IP eval to today can come get his MEI/CFII, but I can't add on an MEI and reset?--Yes. That's correct." I'm going to have to take a check ride to reset, then add the MEI.

I'm going to take a CFII check ride to reset and then back to the FSDO I go to add the MEI.

An ATP SEL is not worth much unless you have your sights set on one of the few jobs that would require it. I wouldn't spend the money unless you need to get current or something anyway.

Just wanted to take a moment to identify the Root Cause here.
$75 back in 2003. That and a few hours invested every two years; worth it, imo.
No, I'm never planning on going back to a CFI gig. Cheap insurance though.

I got my SEL-ATP in 1976 on a Cessna 172, and I believe that it helped me get my airline interview. I did not get a MEL-ATP until I checked out on the 747-400 as F/O. The examiner had trouble figuring out which form to use since he had never seen a SEL-ATP before.

When I was interviewing and filling out applications, nobody ever asked if my ATP was SEL or MEL. I did have 4,000 hrs when I got hired, with 2,000 hrs 4 engine heavy jet, and a type rating on my MEL Commercial.

Thanks genius. Mine expired in 1997. I guess having your cfi would be good if you ever leave the Hog and want to go back to something faster like a cessna 172. attack!

What really sucks is that if our CFII is expired, you can't add the MEI after graduating an IP course as a military pilot, even though they'll give you the MEI addon. You still have to go take a checkride with an examiner in a 172. So passing an IP checkride in the -135 allows me to teach in a Seminole that I haven't touched in 14 years, but I can't renew my CFII with my IP checkride. Love those FAR's!

I did it...PM me if you want pointers...pretty painless, just find a testing center and knock it out...
