Fighter jet multiplier???
 

I am currently flying F-16s and have about 900 hours. At the end of my commitment I will have flown around 1250 total hours (PIC).

I recently talked with a friend, who works on the hiring board for Delta. He told me that their minimum is 1500 hours. I asked him if I would even be granted an interview. He told me "probably not." He told me that there are tons of guys out there with 4000 multi-engine hours that will get the interview before I do.

Don't most airlines grant fighter time some sort of multiplier?

I will be taking the ATP written before 1 Aug. Just trying to see what my chances would be of getting an interview with any major to see if I can even think about getting out by summer of 2015.

I don't know for sure, but will ask some Delta newbies that might.

When I applied to UAL years ago, they did a multiplier. It was very significant for single-seat pilots.

I have a few squadron mates that were hired at Delta with ~1,600-1,700 hours in the Viper. They had quite a few of the standard containers check IP/EP/Safety/Masters.

When you apply to DAL you must use airlineapps.com. What I learned through my own application process is that each airline has a different factor that they use for military guys. They basically apply a 0.3, 0.2, whatever, to each turbine/PIC/military sortie. For example, I have around 4,000 Viper hours, but the conversion to DAL gave me 4,600.

Airlineapps.com is a pay to use service, but you don't get a choice because that's what DAL, UAL, etc use. The service is good, however, but you have to be very accurate when entering in info.

Plus remember, it's 1,500 hours PLUS the ATP. If you take a look at other threads here in the military forums, you'll see the discussions about all the drama surrounding the future of ATP requirements (getting significantly more stringent and pain-in-the-butt), and how guys/gals are using the GI Bill to foot the bill. Recommend you spend some quality time in these threads digging.

However......., do yourself a favor and don't read too many of the posts in APC forums (i.e. threads in the regionals section) - you will get down on life and never want to be an airline pilot. This place seems to be the home for every whiner/complainer/bad attitude dude on the planet. If you only read things here you'll wonder what you're getting yourself into...

Most airlines apply a multiplier per sortie in fixed wing aircraft. This accounts for the "taxi time" normally counted on a GA Hobbs meter. You can expect this to be about .2-.3 per sortie.

A regional will hire you in a heartbeat. Spend a year or two there and you will be a great candidate for a major or LCC airline. You will make about the same as you would on unemployment, and you will get a crap ton of hours and experience.

A friend of mine recently got hired by Delta with ~1800 hours of T-34/T-45/FA-18 time, one internal FO rec and a Higher Power 737 type rating.
