retirement ?

I quickly looked on the internet and could not find an answer can some one give me an rough estimate.

I will " be retire $ eligible" in about 4 years by upon reaching age 60 from the USAFR
I have about 4000 points
I retired as a major

What amount $ after tax would I get each month

Not to start a debate.
but take the I would like my spouse to get some of my pay $ after i die...survivor benefit.

Please don't argue this too hard either but choose tricare or tricare for life.

Rhetorical ? do you think social security will still pay for the next 30 years or be bankrupt. Or will I get some kind of a "you get a government pay check" you cant get two scenario?

These posts can get angry please answer if you can or let it go.

Hello,

Try reading this link:

Reserve Retirement

It's a bit complicated if your entry into service was after 1980-ish. The pay is based on high three years, not final pay. I retired DEMIS was 1974, as an Lt Col at about $2,400 month with survivor benefits at 50% and similar point total

take your points, divide by 360. multiply by 2.5%. Done. That's your multiplier. For a dude with 4000 points and O-4 that's a 27% retirement of whatever the number is for an O-4 when you turn 60. Wag? Around $2063 before taxes using FY15 highest O-4 pay.

I thought your reserve retirement pay was computed using your "high 3". Are you assuming that as an O-4, his pay is maxed out at 20 years?

What If the OP had retired one year after making O-5?

I don't know the guy, of course I'm assuming. He doesn't know either his high-3 pay nor the exact number of retirement points when he asked; I think we can wag it a little, eh? He did ask the internetz to do his retirement homework after all . If a 150 dollar rounding error on a measly 27% secondary pension is gonna make it or break it for the OP I think he's got bigger problems in retirement I'm afraid.

The number I threw is probably close to what the OP will draw and it only took me 6.9 seconds to calculate. Bottom line, it ain't much, but it's certainly an incentive to stick it out in the Reserves until that good year letter while attempting to pursue the fickle flake that is airline employment. To me the best thing about the Reserves is not the retirement, it's the ability to mil drop the hell outta the airline job and have turbine recency insured during the decade long furloughs and displacements. To each their own of course.

Happy Holidays!

You won't be eligible for Tricare for Life until you are eligible for Medicare as Tricare for life is a Medicare supplement. If you live near a military treatment facility (MTF), go with Tricare Prime. Its $547 per year and costs nothing out of pocket except for prescriptions.

Health Plans - TRICARE Prime

If you don't live near a MTF go with Tricare Standard. There is no premium. There are out of pocket costs and you get to choose your own doctor.

Health Plans - TRICARE Standard and Extra

Social Security ain't going away. By the time I am eligible (in 27 years or so) it will be reduced compared to what recipients get today.
