Separating while Overseas and applying

I find myself at a point where I'm strongly considering separating and trying to find a reserve/job at the Majors-if i'm lucky enough. Problem is I'll be separating while overseas in Asia. Has anyone been in my boat and have advice on how that all works? Did you get an interview/were the companies flexible with travel time to get to the interview and the like.

FWIW-i'm two years out and plan to start applying next year at the one year out point.

I left active duty from Germany & the issues I had when applying were: 1. Future employers only wanted to chat when I was 90 days or less from my ETS date, 2. Funky overseas phone number (this was before VoIP, Vonage, etc.), 3. APO and/or European address, 4. Time zone differences.

These were not show-stoppers but instead just bumps in the road for me in early 2006 as I left active duty. My other issue was not having my ATP & current FAA 1st Class Medical since I was on/off deployments & stationed overseas. Being 2+ years out you can plan accordingly now to have all your ducks in a row. I used the AMC rotator to get home to the States cheaply for my job interviews.

Good luck!

Good luck, now is a good time to be applying. I would do what you have to do to make it work.

Yes, I know, easier said from my seat, but it can be overcome. I'd start with getting applications on file.

...Is not having a current Class 1 going to be an issue. I have one now but it will certainly expire. Is that required for interviews?

I was overseas when I separated, but the rules were that you couldn't separate from an overseas station. I did all the paperwork in LA not England.

Was LA your choice of location,or theirs? Did you have and take leave before? I'm curious as to the whole process. If my DEROS is Apr'17 but I want to take a month of terminal leave what the heck happens since i can't leave my OS assignment before my DEROS?

thks
