Never got T-1A/BE400 type rating added, but?

I'm in the process of separating and getting all my stuff together to apply to the airlines.

In the process of pouring through all my flight records, I came across the letter that my T-1 flight commander did for me after I finished UPT. It's the letter to the FSDO stating eligibility for the T-1A/Beechjet 400A type rating. It's dated June 2000 (I know, I know). Due to my own laziness, I never had the type rating added to my FAA certificate. Can I take a 15 year old letter to the FSDO and get it added to my certificate after all this time? If not, not big deal. Just wondering if anyone knows.

I know there used to be a 12 month rule, but I heard that CFR 61.73 was updated at some point and removed the 12 month rule for military pilots. I looked it up online (click here) and that seems to be the case unless I'm reading it wrong (very possible), but I'm curious if anyone has pressed to test on this yet.

why do you need it? if you have zero other type ratings then it might give you a tiny shred of credibility. you also have zero chance of using said type rating for anything other than ink on your license.

It's potentially low hanging fruit, especially since I'm planning a trip to the FSDO in a couple weeks anyhow. You're right that it probably won't matter one way or another, but I certainly don't think it will hurt to be able to add that to my resume and applications.

I thought the 12 month rule dealt with separation date. Just call your FSDO before you go down, but I think you're golden.

Its not going to hurt to try. However, I added a type post 9-11 and before the type rules changed. The FSDO was very anal about it. They went flight by flight through my USAF Flying Time Summary to make sure I had enough time, even though I had over a thousand total in type. Now that the type rating requirements have changed, you may run into additional issues. Good luck.

14 CFR part 61 section 73 addresses this. The only hold up might be whether you got a Form 8 from your T-1 check. Worth a shot

I did it ten years after graduation at the OKC fsdo. They didn't even ask for the letter when they saw that I survived AF UPT and saw the T-1 in my logbook. BE-400/MU-300 types added. Just like you, I waited until my last year in the service to do it all. It worked out just fine for me.
The rules have changed greatly for military competency type ratings in the last decade. Read up on it. It is a little easier than it used to be in some respects and harder in others.

Thanks! I'll give it a shot. Worse they can do is say no.

And if they do, find another FSDO. :)

Concur. Over my mil career I could always shop around FSDOs and find someone mil friendly who could make things happen that another shop interpreted differently. On my last trip to PHL office the airman there saw my C-141 time 12 years ago and told me to bring the paperwork next time and he would add the L-100 type rating. I had to call 4 or 5 FSDOs to get someone to do my Lear type rating without paying for V1 cuts or doing a checkride in a civilian jet when I did my ATP and CFI.
