Ever see the first half of Full Metal Jacket?
Well, it wasn't like that. To summarize:
Everybody was dressed up in interview suits and blue ties. On arrival we checked in at the front desk and were shown to the room right near by. The event didn't start on time so there was at least a half hour if not more of everybody just standing around chit chatting with everybody else. Must have been some kind of test to see who the wall flowers were.
Eventually they got the ball rolling and there were presentations on the company, lots of "we love Vets" rhetoric worked into there. Eventually there was a panel with three or four pilots answering questions, and management took questions as well. They had some door prizes to give out too.
Eventually, the captains and HR folks present broke up (about 10 or so of them collectively) and little groups formed around them to ask questions and have their resumes looked at. This is your chance to move around the room and make contact with as many folks as you can. Like an f-in' idiot I ran out of resumes...so bring about 10 or so...half dozen will not cut it. You won't need anything but resumes so if you have a whole pile of other documents, don't bother with them.
It was a good event and I'm glad that I went. Very positive atmosphere. In short, go and enjoy, take it for what it is worth and learn what there is to learn about JB. If you want to fly for JB you'd be crazy not to go.

Here's a counter view--I put away my resumes (didn't hand out a single one) and hung out away from the swarms of people trying to speak to the big whigs. Me and another guy chatted with all the admin folks (hiring team?)and asked about them and the company. Guess who got an invite 2 weeks later--me and my friend.
Overall ViB was the straw that broke the camels back. I was so ****ed off at wasting my money attending this thing I never went to another job fair. Skipped WIA and OBAP, and then got hired by a major 6 months later anyway.
Good luck.

And another view. This is purely conjecture and gr8vu would be an excellent example of a person where this model doesn't fit but here it is anyway. I got the impression JB wanted people who were qualified but not TOO qualified. I and 2 friends went, all very competitive for majors, all eventually hired by majors, and none of us got a callback from JB. I had a very brief time to speak with the JB vp of talent and after she looked at my resume she said something to the effect of 'if this were an interview I'd ask what you would do if we hired you and a major called'.

I don't think it guarantees an interview. Bedsides a blue dart, it is probably the quickest way to an interview if your a Veteran and competitive. All the others WAI, OBAP.....they all charge you to come and on a much larger scale. VIB is for Veterans only and free. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me?!

I was lucky enough to get a spot in the morning session off of the waitlist. It looks like the best way to get there is to fly into LGA and take a cab? The invite says check-in is from 9:00am-9:45am and the first flight to LGA from my home airport is scheduled to land at 8:10am. I'm guessing I should come in the night before and get a hotel? Anyone have any insight? Thanks!
