ANG/AFR units and equipment?
My 23yr old son is interested in joining a Guard unit or an Air Force Reserve unit. I was a Guard pilot but that was before Al Gore invented the internet. We have been surfing the internet looking for flying units/locations/aircraft types but can't find any lists of who fly what and where. Does such a list or web site exist?
We are in central Florida, the only flying unit I can find is in Jacksonville, (F15's?). I had thought there was a KC135 reserve unit in Tampa too, but can't find any info on it. Any ideas on where I can get more/better info would be most appreciated. Thanks. |

Come fly tankers in Tampa - GuardReserveJobs Most efficient way is to go visit on all drill weekends leading up to the interview board. There are plenty other sq's across the country with openings............ Home - US National Guard and Reserve |

GF Who knew it would only take another 35 years to find a replacement for jets built in...1956!:D Hey, if they fly a KC135 out to Osh Kosh, do they get to park it in the Antique area? |
Everyone is desperate for pilots now. Hell my unit figured out my DSJA had a private license and was within waivable age and tried to pull him over to the ops group. A few years ago AFRC realized how many UPT slots they were losing because units could not fill them and started its own unsponsored board so AFRC sends you to OTS and UPT and you are assigned to a unit by track select. If you want info on that program pm me. If it were my kid I would be sending them to a unit to rush though.

Homestead has Vipers as well if he's looking to stay in FL. Guardreservejobs has some postings, but most units just seem to advertise on their unit website or some not at all. Try putting this into google:
site:af.mil UPT 2016 Units currently hiring that I can think of off the top of my head (only really know about fighter units though, sorry): Oregon (Eagles) South Dakota (Vipers) Fresno (Eagles) South Carolina (Vipers) Missouri AFRC (A-10's) Having open app windows soon: Duluth (Vipers) Madison (Vipers) Vermont (Vipers) I just spent a couple years going through the process of getting hired so if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM if you'd like. |
baseops.net might be a good source as well!

(BTW... "Oshkosh" is one word. It's a city, not a children's clothing brand) |
Try www.wantscheck.com
Lists all kinds of gouge about hiring boards. |

The Air Force Association recently put the magazine out for free online viewing to all, regardless of membership. The annual almanac issue in May has the most complete listing of AF installations for active, guard and reserve |

ANG C-17s:
Jackson, MS Memphis, TN Martinsburg, WV Stewart, NY Hickam, HI (joint unit) Anchorage, AK (joint unit) Charlotte, NC (coming online FY 17) Pittsburg (strong rumors) C17 Reserve units: Charleston, SC March AFB, CA Not as familiar with other aircraft. I know there are ANG KC 135s in Knoxville, TN, Birmingham, AL, and Meridian, MS. As you mentioned, there is also the Reserve unit at Macdill. Good luck to your son! |

Yes, an associate unit.

When a unit says no older than 30 to enter UPT do they mean up until your 30th birthday or up until the day you turn 31? I've got about a year and 3 months left before I turn 30 and I'm trying to actively get picked up with no luck yet.
|
You have to enter pilot training (class start date) by your 30th birthday, not sign on, not enter OTS, enter UPT. Used to was be 271/2, so age waivers are hard to come by, usually limited to navs, etc. it's not a "unit" limit, it's an AF rule.
I tried to get an age waiver for an in-unit enlisted crew who couldn't finish college because he was activated by the AF (Desert Storm)--no deal. He went on to be a "wrench" on Gemini DC-10 freighters, got his pilot licenses and fled F/O with them. GF |
