Default MV-22 Pilot - Mil to Civ - Roadmap advice?

Nothing in the FAA moves quickly as far as non-urgent official rule changes. But similar to what was posted above, Osprey folks (and by that I mean folks that only flew the Osprey, no other fleet aircraft) are going VFR direct to the legacies, and in a recent case FedEx (before hiring slowed down).

Yep. I've heard a lot about this rule. Can't wait to see it in action. That being said, most purebreds are within 100 FW hours of meeting that minimum (~100 BE20, ~50-60 TEX2) so a little weekend time building/rental sharing with a buddy will get you there quickly.

I know lots of guys getting orders to the MATSGs now too which helps a ton.

Those are airplanes, which land like any other airplane (they do STOVL sometimes too). But for practical purposes there's no question that AVB/F35B pilots have plenty of practice landing jet airplanes.

The question is on the ATP side for me. I’ve got 1800 helo hours and 1200 V-22 hours but my only pure fixed wing time is in the T-6. Waiting on this rule change before I drop $15K on the ME time I’d need for the ATP.

Yep, the ATP rule is the one I’m referring to as well.

Be advised, if your short on ME time, this rule change does NOT affect that. Unfortunately, your still going to need to drop the $15k on 50 hours ME time, and for good reason (how many V1 cuts, single engine approaches to a wave off, etc. have you done in an Osprey?) Even the AV-8 and F-35 folks need to get their 50 hours ME time (though I think 25 of those can be in full motion sims.)

You are correct but that’s not the issue. The official policy has been that AV-8B and F-35B time is not FW airplane time. None of my AV-8B time was counted by the FSDO for my ratings. Airlines don’t seem to care, and they can hire whoever they want as long as they have an ATP.

Plus he would have needed ME time to get a ME ATP.

Yes you need to plan on meeting FAA ATP requirements with time in something that officially counts as FW. Other than that, you're good for airlines. Osprey is another matter though.

Not “another matter” for the Osprey though. Assuming a valid ATP, Osprey folks (that is, those who primarily had Osprey as their “FW” time, aside from flight school and ATP mins) are and have been going VFR direct from Active Duty to the legacies (and even one to FedEx recently before their hiring slowed down). Granted, there are some who may have been low on overall time or otherwise needed to boost their app score with quick tour at a regional (we’re talking 6 month to 1 yr range), though I even had a V-22 buddy who only had 1600TT get on the AA 2 years ago. Southwest is the only company that does not view V-22 time as FW ME as far as hiring mins. At this point the FAR 61.159 ATP requirements are the only remaining sticking point.

Of note, there is semantic difference in “airplane” and “fixed wing.” While the Osprey (and harrier, and lightning) are powered lift, they are also fixed wing as the FAA defines powered lift as an aircraft that uses “...nonrotating airfoil for lift during horizontal flight.” But they are not “airplanes,” that’s why there is a delta between what the FAA says you can use towards the 250 hours PIC required for the ATP and what the Airlines decide you can use for hiring mins.

Don’t disagree that all else equal, Harrier and Lighting folks with an ATP will have a more competitive app, but I think that has more to do with the fact that they are single-seat TACAIR.
