Need advice about visiting units

I would like to make a visit to some Reserve/ANG units in the area to see if I can talk to some current pilots and learn more. (I'd already seen an accessions officer in the past and taken the tests.)
How do I go about doing this? I have no military background whatsoever I have no idea what to expect.. do you just walk in and say hi? Start chatting away with the first person you see? How does this work???
Also, should I be dressed in a formal outfit, like what you would wear to an interview, or should business casual (slacks, button down) suffice?
FYI, the units I'd be visiting are Charleston, Savannah, and others in the Southeast area. I don't know if any of them are actually hiring, but I guess the visit would be a good way to find out.

Call first to make sure someone has time to speak with you(the unit is not deployed, has an inspection happening, etc). Business casual is fine, no need to wear a suit. Try to find the number for ops where you want to apply. Call and tell them you want to go to UPT. Anytime you can bypass a recruiter it is a good thing. Plus someone will need to get you on base.

Call first and ask for the Ops O or the squadron Commander. If you know someone in the unit who can introduce you, all the better. Tell them your story and see if they want to meet you. I wouldn't wear a suit, but I'd try to look casual/professional.

Yep - and MAKE SURE you are given the go ahead to show up. We just turned a guy down because he sent his package in..called to make sure it showed up..then rolled in for an interview. No one had ever called him for an interview.
