Retirement gift
I have a good friend fast approaching his retirement from the Navy after 25+ years. I remember our officers pitching in for a nice squadron gift for retiring squadronmates, but can't really remember any individual gifts being given.
Anybody have the gouge on what would be appropriate/expected for such an occasion? Thanks for any thoughts/ideas you may have. Omar |

Omar Standard retirement gift could include shadow box, signed framed litho or something along those lines. If its a personal gift from you to him that's your choice/option. Normally the member's last command will take care of the retirement gift as mentioned above. I If its a group of friends pitching in for a former squadron mate, I have seen a chromed gun barrel, stick grip(mounted) or other items unique to the aircraft y'all flew. Those items are tough to get unless you know someone in squadron/wing/tycom maintenance that can pull a string or two for you. Good luck, you have a lot of options assuming you have the time to put it together. |

We gave my Skipper in a Navy VR Convair 580 squadron a plaque with a piece of rubber dog Shiite and a Hong Kong flag stuck in it.
It seemed appropriate. Of course, he was a big Top Gun fan. Sometimes a personalized gift is better than the standard shadow box. |
